Himachal Vidhan sabha Election: VVPAT slips to be counted with EVM

During the counting of the December 18 assembly elections, counting slips within VVPat machine for the first time will also be counted. Only one VVPat machine will be counted from each assembly constituency of the state.

VVPAT (Voterified Paper Audit Trail) will be selected from a Lucky Draw. If there is a difference between the number of votes in VVPAT and the number of votes in the EVM, then the Election Commission can take tough steps.

Earlier, there was a provision to count the slips within VVPat machine only on the claim of any candidate. Following the polling in Uttar Pradesh last year, leaders of several political parties have been questioning transparency in allegations of EVM tampering.

Now, the Election Commission has given more relief to count only one  VVPat from every assembly constituency. For the first time in the state Assembly elections, VVPAT was used at some polling booths in April by-election.

Delay in removing result

But VVPAT was used with EVMs at all polling stations in the assembly elections held in the state on 9th November. Counting of slips within VVPat machine will delay the withdrawal of candidate’s results. Most of its impact will be seen in the big districts of the state.

Kangra, Mandi and Shimla districts will take more time during counting. District Kangra has the maximum number of assembly constituencies. As a result, 15 VVPat machines will be counted separately in addition to EVMs here. There are 80 to 95 polling stations in each assembly area.

The number of polling stations, there will be enough slabs in the compartment with the name of the polling station and number number. At the end a slip will be pulled out of the box and the VVPat machine and EVM of that name will be counted separately.

VVPAT will be selected BY Lucky draws

During the counting of the December 18 assembly elections, counting slips within VVPat machine for the first time will also be counted. Only one VVPat machine will be counted from each assembly constituency of the state.
